Diabetes Patients Respond Better to Empathetic Doctors: Study
Posted by Mason Brennan on March 19th, 2011
If you have diabetes, you may experience better blood sugar control if your primary doctor has an empathetic bedside manner, a new study suggests. In a three-year study of 891 patients, researchers found that those whose doctors scored high on an empathy scale were 16 percent more likely to have good blood sugar control, and 15 percent more likely to have better cholesterol levels. Experts say that may be because patients who have caring, kind doctors may be more likely to follow their treatment plan.
